Purple ore (Purpurerz), Bezeichnung für die gereinigten (ausgelaugten) Kiesabbrände (s.d. und Schwefelsäure), wegen des hohen Eisengehalts (meistens 60–65%) zur Roheisendarstellung (s. Roheisen) im Hochofen verwendet. Ueber ihre chemische Zusammensetzung vgl. Ledebur, A., Handbuch der Eisenhüttenkunde, Bd. 1, 5. Aufl., Leipzig 1907, und andre Lehrbücher der Eisenhüttenkunde.
