Bank, Sitzgerät, erheblich länger als hoch und tief.

Um möglichste körperliche Ruhe gewähren zu können, versieht man die Bank mit Lehne von 50–70 cm Höhe bei 40–45 cm Sitzhöhe und 45–50 cm Sitztiefe für Erwachsene; ihr Profil muß sich möglichst dem darauf sitzenden Körper anpassen. Die zweckmäßigsten Dimensionen sind aus der Tabelle S. 545 ersichtlich.

Ganz besondere Sorgfalt ist in neuerer Zeit der Konstruktion zweckmäßiger Schulbänke zugewendet worden (s. [1]–[4]). Man verlangt von denselben, daß bei der Benutzung der Schwerpunkt des Oberkörpers ein wenig hinter eine durch die Hauptstützen desselben, die[545] Sitzbeinhöcker, senkrecht gelegte Ebene fällt. Die Entfernung des Tisches von den Augen soll mindestens 26 bis höchstens 32 cm betragen. Die Tischplatte muß gegen das Auge geneigt sein, so daß ein Sehwinkel von ca. 60 entsteht. Die Lehne soll nach vorne so geschweift sein, daß der Rücken auch beim Schreiben eine Stütze findet. – In Werkbank, Hobelbank, Drehbank, Fensterbank u.s.w. ist mit der Bezeichnung ein andrer Begriff verbunden.
