Bromate, Salze der Bromsäure, besitzen als solche untergeordnete Bedeutung für die Technik, da die gleich wirkenden Chlorate wesentlich billiger zuhaben sind. Sie bilden sich bei der Einwirkung von Brom auf in Wasser gelöste oder in Wasser verteilte Metalloxydhydrate (s. Kaliumbromid, Darstellung) bei höherer Temperatur.
