Alloxan

Alloxan, eine der Harnsäuregruppe zugehörige Verbindung C4H2N2O4, die als Ureid der Mesoxalsäure zu betrachten ist und demgemäß folgende Konstitution hat:


Alloxan

Es entsteht durch gemäßigte Oxydation der Harnsäure mit Salpetersäure oder Chlor und Brom, kristallisiert aus warmem Wasser in Prismen mit vier Molekülen Kristallwasser, von denen das letzte erst bei 150° entweicht, reagiert stark sauer und besitzt einen unangenehmen Geschmack. Die Lösung färbt die Haut nach einiger Zeit purpurrot. Durch warmes Barytwasser wird es in Alloxansäure


Alloxan

übergeführt. Diese, eine strahlig kristallinische Masse, ist eine stark saure, zweibasische Säure. Durch Reduktionsmittel geht das Alloxan in Alloxantin über nach der Gleichung:

2C4H2N2O4 + H2 = C8H4N4O7 + H2O.

Das Alloxantin, das am leichtesten durch Erwärmen von Harnsäure mit verdünnter Salpetersäure gewonnen wird, kristallisiert in Prismen und liefert beim Erhitzen auf 100° in Ammoniakgas das Ammoniumsalz der Purpursäure, das als Farbstoff angewandte und zur Erkennung der Harnsäure dienende Murexid.
