Diphenyl C12H10, farblose, in Aether und Alkohol leicht lösliche Blättchen, schmilzt bei 70°, siedet bei 254°. Gewonnen aus dem Steinkohlenteer, entsteht es auch beim Behandeln von Phenol mit Kalium, von Brombenzol mit Natrium sowie aus Benzoldämpfen, die man durch glühende Röhren leitet, u.s.w. Liefert zahlreiche Derivate.
