Palladium Pd, Element aus der Gruppe der Platinmetalle, findet sich als steter. Begleiter der Platinerze (zu 5–10%, auch im Goldsande Brasiliens).

Weißgrau, mit starkem Metallglanz, an der Luft unveränderlich, löslich in Salz-, Salpeter- und Schwefelsäure; Atomgew. 106,5, spez. Gew. 11,9, Schmelzpunkt gegen 1550° C. Fein verteiltes Palladium absorbiert unter starker Volumvergrößerung sehr beträchtliche Mengen Wasserstoff (bis 982 Volumina). Die Lösung des Chlorürs (PdCl2 + 2H2O, rotbraune Kristalle) absorbiert Kohlenoxyd und dient als Reagens auf solches. Jodkalium fällt aus Palladiumsalzen schwarzbraunes Palladiumjodür. – Mit Kupfer und Silber legiert dient Palladium zur Herstellung nichtmagnetischer Uhrteile.
